Sand Prairie fiber opens sign up in Elizabeth

Grassroots efforts to bring fiber internet service to the communities within the Jo-Carroll Energy and Sand Prairie service territory are paying off.

Because of strong interest shown by Elizabeth residents, Sand Prairie opened four areas in Elizabeth to sign up for fiber service, the first since the local cooperative completed a pilot project in Galena last year.

Youth to Washington Tour applications available

Two high school students will travel to Washington, D.C. on an all-expense paid tour of the nation’s capital with the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in June, sponsored by Jo-Carroll Energy and the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives.

The 2015 Youth to Washington Tour is open to area high school sophomores or juniors in the current 2017-18 school year who are sons or daughters of a Jo-Carroll Energy member. Winners will be selected via an application and interview process.

JCE representative testifies at US House subcommittee hearing on rural broadband

Access to high-speed broadband internet is essential for the continued success and well-being of rural America, small businesses and continued economic development a local cooperative representative told a U.S. House subcommittee on Thursday. 

Flooding hampers outage restoration

Due to flooding in parts of the Jo-Carroll Energy service territory early Saturday morning, line crews were pulled from the areas served by the cooperative's Canyon Substation for safety reasons. This includes the Apple River, Stockton and Elizabeth areas.

Area students represent JCE on Youth Tour

Meg Flynn of Galena and Paula Israel of Fulton represented Jo-Carroll Energy in Washington, D.C., during the annual “Youth to Washington” Tour, June 9-16. This event, sponsored by the electric and telephone cooperatives of Illinois since the late 1950s, is an introduction to our democratic form of government and cooperatives for rural youth.

Tindell appointed to co-op board

Dan Tindell of Galena has been appointed to Jo-Carroll Energy’s board of directors, representing District 4.

David Senn, chairman of the cooperative’s board of directors, announced the appointment following the board’s regular May meeting held May 31.

Tindell and his spouse, Pam, have been members of Jo-Carroll Energy since 1996 when they moved from Springfield, IL.  He was appointed to the vacant District 4 Director position in May of 2017.
